Live & Online Excel Training for BUUK Infrastructure
Client Background
BUUK Infrastructure is the leading independent provider of last-mile utility networks, constructing and operating essential utility assets in the UK. With over 30,000 discrete networks, serving over 1 million homes, they are the leading independent provider of last-mile networks.
Context and Challenge
Blue Novation has successfully delivered a number of Excel training courses (at all levels) for BUUK at their Suffolk headquarters. Due to Covid-19 restrictions on face-to-face training, training for BUUK was moved to a “live and online” format for all BUUK staff.
The Project
To deliver Excel training, at introductory and intermediate level, to BUUK staff working from home around the UK.
The main features of the project include:
- Modules consisting of hour-long online sessions (four per course) led by a Blue Novation tutor along with a member of our admin team acting as moderator.
- Online sessions were delivered via a Microsoft Teams meeting with tutor, moderator and delegates all on camera to allow for interaction.
- Prior to each online session, delegates received a PDF with comprehensive notes covering the content for the online session.
- Recordings of each live and online session were uploaded to BUUK’s Office 365 video channel, along with short pre-recorded videos relating to the online session content, enabling delegates to review and consolidate their knowledge post-session.
- Following each online session, practice exercises and (optional) content-related quizzes were emailed to each delegate.
- Five days after each online session, optional 30-minute drop-in sessions were scheduled so delegates could discuss any queries regarding the online session or practice exercises.
Project Outcomes
Due to the success of the project, we are now delivering “live and online” Excel training, at introductory through to advanced level, to a further 160 BUUK staff (Qtr 2, 2021).

Alan is an Excel and Power BI trainer with over 20 years experience. He loves training and showing others how to effectively use Excel and Power BI in a fun and approachable manner. He is very active in the community and runs a blog, YouTube channel, Excel user group in London, writes for multiple other websites and is the author of the “Advanced Excel Success” book. Alan was awarded MVP (Microsoft Most Valuable Professional) in 2020 for his services to Excel in the community.
